Former Ford Factory, located in Bukit Batok, holds significant historical importance as the site where British forces, commanded by Lieutenant-General Arthur Percival, surrendered to Japanese forces during World War II. Recognized as the national monument of Singapore, it is currently managed by the Ford Motor Company of Malaya. In 2006, the Old Ford Motor Factory received official National Monument status and underwent a transformation into the Memories exhibition gallery and archive. The exhibition within the Ford Factory provides a comprehensive overview of the events that unfolded in Singapore during World War II, shedding light on how the Gibraltar of the East succumbed to Japanese forces. The permanent exhibits vividly depict life in Singapore under Japanese rule. Additionally, the Former Ford Factory houses an audiovisual theater with a seating capacity of 76 people, offering oral history interviews and presentations of audiovisual recordings. This historic landmark serves as a poignant educational resource, contributing to the preservation of Singapore's collective memory by offering insights into the wartime experiences of the nation.

FORMER FORD FACTORY REVIEWS
A very underrated museum dedicated to WW2 in Singapore! It seems like not many people been here as there wasn’t a crowd at all. Staff were very friendly and there is a guided tour. Didn’t opt for that as preferred free and easy. The museum isn’t big but the information is well curated. Hope more people in Singapore can come and visit this museum! Free for Singaporeans ofc.
My photos do not do this place justice. This is because I was too absorbed into the exhibits and information. This is an excellent place to learn about how Singapore fell during World War 2. It also teaches us about the dangers of complacency and stereotyping, among many other lessons. An excellent place for educating both adults and older kids about a very important piece of history.
Really informative, with helpful staff. Glad to see that Singapore's museums are moving towards a broader view of wartime history and are moving past nationalistic narratives to give the audience a wider appreciation for the past.

BUKIT BATOK HILLSIDE PARK REVIEWS
Nice place to visit, take your friends and family there, they will enjoy the park. nice and green. open for all. The park is covered with grass. There were benches for people to sit in every corner and jogging tracks were all around the park. Flower hedges and bushes grew all around; this made the park look more pleasant and attractive. This place would have been most beautiful at this time; it would have been so pleasurable to relax here and take in some cool fresh air. Family and friends are welcome.

The Syonan Chureito Memorial, situated in Bukit Batok, stands as a commemorative site with historical significance. Constructed during the Japanese Occupation, its purpose is to honor the fallen soldiers of both the Japanese and British forces. The memorial was specifically built to pay tribute to the war dead in the vicinity. The Japanese monument, once a wooden mast stretching 12 meters high and crowned with a brass cone, served as a place for military and Japanese officials to regularly pay homage to the Japanese Emperor. Today, all that remains at the memorial site is a set of steps leading to the location where the monuments once stood. Visitors can explore the memorial and the surrounding park, gaining insights into the historical context. The extended flight of steps not only offers a view of the memorial but also presents an excellent opportunity for a high-intensity workout. The Syonan Times reported that the erection of the Syonan Chureito aimed to perpetuate the memory of Nippon heroes who sacrificed their lives on the battlefronts of Malaya and Sumatra. This memorial serves as a tangible reminder of the complex historical events that unfolded during that period.

SYONAN CHUREITO MEMORIAL REVIEWS
My favourite place for running up the steep long slope. Follow by another long flight of steps to the top. From up there can see Marina Bay Sands and some of Singapore CBD skyscrapers on a clear blue day. There is no shelter along the way up along Lor Sesui. The way up from Bukit batok nature park is closed till 2027. Remember to bring water bottle along as there is no water point or toilet facility up there.
There is no real memorial here, just the site of the former memorial. Car park available. Bathrooms are about a kilometer down the hill, in Bukit Batok Nature Park.
Poignant memorial with views over the array, Bukit Batok Park and back down the hill to the Fire Station and across to Bukit Timah.
