As you look through the history of Peranakan culture, Singapore is one of the main hub together with Melaka, Penang and Phuket. This row of multicoloured houses in Joo Chiat Rd preserves the Peranakan culture in Singapore. It retains the aesthetic nature of the house and fence design. There are signs of colour fading on some of the houses. And, the 2 last houses either sides are under renovation. It is perfect to snap your Instagram photos here, but do be careful of the weather. It gets too hot at times and it will suddenly rain as well. Prepare the umbrella. And there are a few cafes just at the corner to cool down also.
Gorgeous houses! I'd been wanting to see these for a while and finally got there. Highly recommend a walk up vibrant Joo Chiat Road (from East Coast Rd) to get there. Lots of interesting things to see on the way. Really enjoyed this area in Singapore and will be staying there for future visits.
One of my new fav places to take traveling visitors to Singapore, it’s a great place to take photos and something different The whole area is great to explore too!
