Overall, Chinese rojak is a must-try for those who appreciate bold, complex flavors and enjoy dishes that offer a mix of fresh and fried elements. It’s a versatile dish that captures the culinary creativity and vibrancy of Southeast Asian cuisine. Chinese rojak is a dish that offers a delightful explosion of flavors and textures, reflecting the vibrant street food culture of Southeast Asia. This dish typically consists of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables like pineapple, cucumber, and jicama, mixed with crispy youtiao (fried dough fritters) and tau pok (fried beancurd). What ties these ingredients together is a rich, dark sauce made from fermented shrimp paste (hae ko), tamarind, and sugar, creating a complex balance of sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy flavors.
No frills chendol found in Malaysia Boleh, Northpoint City. It's one of my favourites, similar to the one found in Malaysia Boleh, Jurong Point. Both are good. The gula melaka is fragrant, chendol is fresh and chewy, red beans are soft and sweet. They all come together as a superb bowl of chendol. However, this chedol is not the rich/milky/creamy kind. It's more like a sweet, refreshing drink, and that's the way I like it.
Spicy chicken cutlet curry noodles and fried beancurd curry noodles were delicious, perfect portion (not too much), right amount of spice, all ingredients work so well with the dry curry gravy. Penang Chendol dessert was the perfect way to complete the lunch.
