My Gut Feeling was right. I was waiting for my daughter to finish her enrichment class at Clementi Ave 3 (near Clementi Central). There were three maid agencies along the stretch. For some reason, my eyes went to this small agency tucked away in a corner. I read the Google reviews, liked what I saw, and decided to give them a call. Best decision I made. By 7.30pm, my wife, two daughters and our existing helper were on a video interview with our preferred candidate. 8.00pm – We confirmed our choice. 8.30pm – Documents submitted and deposit paid. 9pm – The helper accepted the contract. 10pm – MOM acknowledged the application. The next day, MOM approved the work permit. From the first phone call to approving a helper took less than 24 hours. Our helper arrived in Singapore in under two weeks. Honestly, if someone had told me this was possible, I wouldn’t have believed them. We chose an ex-Singapore Myanmar helper and paid a small premium. Personally, I think it’s worth it. She speaks English, cooks reasonably well, already understands life in Singapore, and the transition has been much smoother. It has been 2 months and my new helper is settling in well. What impressed me most was Charlene. She communicates well in both English and Chinese, is efficient, responsive and knows her work. More importantly, she listens. At no point did I feel pressured to choose a helper immediately. And her gut feeling is quite accurate to find a good match for my family.
