“Darma Muneeswaran Temple, established over a century ago, originated as a modest shrine beneath a Bodhi tree around 1900. Initially constructed by 30 Indian families residing on Jalan Hwi Yoh, the temple has evolved significantly. It hosts various significant poojas annually, drawing a congregation of 600 to 800 devotees. In 1969, the devoted Hindus overseeing the temple undertook enhancements, introducing additional deities such as Sri Mariamman, Sri Vinayagar, Sri Murugan, Sri Nagar, and Sri Bairavar. The temple caters to a diverse demographic, including youth and older people. It actively encourages students to apply for bursaries each year, fostering educational opportunities. Beyond its religious functions, the temple extends its services to the community by offering social-economic, educational, and welfare programs. These include Tamil classes, dance, musical instrument instruction, yoga, chess, and Mandarin lessons. With over 800 participants of various ages engaging in non-religious activities weekly, the temple plays a vital role in serving and connecting with the community. Its commitment to encouraging students through bursaries reflects a dedication to motivating and supporting future generations within their community.
