“Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple, dedicated to the Hindu God Ganesha, has a rich history spanning over 150 years. The Temple's journey began in the 1850s when a pond discovered a statue of Lord Vinayagar. Mr. S Moganaruban, PBM, along with the Temple Management Committee, devoted members, and numerous well-wishers, played a crucial role in its development. Initiating the construction, Mr Ethirnayagam Pillai, a Ceylon Tamil, led the creation of the first structure—a simple shelter with an attap roof—assisted by Indian workers. This humble abode under the Chempaka tree eventually evolved into the esteemed Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple. The term "Sri" is a respectful prefix, signifying respect. The Chempaka tree, Senpaga in Tamil, stood by the pond, becoming the Temple's distinctive feature. The Temple boasts a pair of nine-foot-tall Dwarapalakas (demigod gatekeepers) flanking the Rajagopura entrance tower, showcasing the Chola style of architecture. The serene environment of the Temple further enhances the spiritual experience. The Temple houses deities such as Ganesha, Shiva, Karthikeya, Kala Bhairava, Bhrammi, and Dakshinamoorthy within its sacred walls. Additionally, the Temple extends its benevolence by providing free meals for devotees, embodying a commitment to spiritual and communal well-being.
